Working in cooperation with The Sandals Foundation, the team at School Specialty has been a part of the outfitting of the new West End Infant School in Negril, Jamaica.
At the announcement of the partnership with The Sandals Foundation, Joseph M. Yorio, President and Chief Executive Officer of School Specialty had this to say: “We are very excited to be partnering with the Sandals Foundation! Their mission aligns with School Specialty’s own values to do what’s right, to lead with action and do our best in helping and inspiring our neighbors around the world.”
New Early Childhood Classroom Supplies Donated by School Specialty
A team from School Specialty traveled to Negril to be a part of the celebration at the opening of the recently-built West End Infant School. Donating over $75,000 in school supplies and furniture, School Specialty played a key role in filling and setting up eight classrooms. From storage and organization supplies to tables and chairs, the classrooms were outfitted with useful and innovative tools that will play a part in providing a quality education for the young minds in Negril.
The dedication of the school highlighted the 8 months that went into the building and stocking of the new school building, as well as the importance of community involvement in its success. The ceremony and opening of the school also represents exciting progress in the continued growth of the community in Negril, but also School Specialty’s commitment to providing quality educational tools and resources to future generations.
Among the tools and supplies for eight classrooms donated were Childcraft storage cubbies with bins, colorful carpets, stocked book racks, tables and chairs, maps and wall charts, and educational games and activities for early childhood learners. Outside, early childhood students will also be able to take advantage of new playground equipment.
A Focus on Early Childhood Education in Jamaica
Building the West End Infant School in Negril is one of many projects completed in Jamaica by The Sandals Foundation, and with the partnership of School Specialty. The focus on early childhood education comes from the research that shows the first few years of a child’s life and education serve as the foundation for a prosperous and promising future.
Building a foundation of educated young people in Jamaica will aid in the building and strengthening of their economy and the world, as future generations grow up having had quality educational experiences from a very young age. From the ages of 3-5 children are developing key skills in communication, creativity, and problem-solving, which makes those years an incredibly important time of influence.
