Tips for Making Your Anchor Charts Pop
Color, details, and layout all make for better and more engaging anchor charts. Make something you’re proud of, and that your students like to look at every day. Try mixing these tips together to take your anchor charts to the next level.
Try Some New Border Designs
Adding a border is an easy way to dress up a basic anchor chart. Use curls, dots, dashes, or straight lines to give your anchor chart a more defined edge. Try multiple colors or a adding a doodle or design in the corners. Make the edges of the anchor chart look more dressed up, and it will make the middle of the page look nicer, even without adding anything else!
Add Patterns and Doodles
If you have any gaps in bubble lettering, room inside of numbers, or space between lines in your border, fill it with patterns. The patterns don’t need to be fancy, just something colorful to fill the space and add some detail. Stripes, squares, dots, and zig-zags are easy to draw and can fill up a boring word or number.
Change Up the Lettering
Lettering is challenging without lots of practice, but in most cases, anchor charts should be easy to read. Focus on making letters that kids can read easily, and colors that are easy to see from a distance. Add dots to the ends of the letters, or curly details on letters with a longer letter descender, like “y,” “g,” or “j.”
