Like many school districts across the country, the Sheldon Independent School District (ISD) in Houston, Texas, sought to enhance campus security without compromising the learning experience. Dr. Brenda Dearmon, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services at Sheldon ISD, emphasized the importance of having reliable, modern detection systems in schools today: “It’s very important for us to have a weapon detection system within our school, with all the mass shootings that are taking place within the United States. We want to ensure that we have systems in place that can detect any type of weapon or item that could potentially be harmful to our staff, students, and visitors on campus.”

Dr. Dearmon shared, “What we determined in our selection of upgrading our metal detector system with the CEIA OPENGATE System, we were able to identify the timing and efficiency of actually getting a mass number of students through the process in a timely manner. Also, being able to detect the items that we’re looking for so we’re not having to stop and search every backpack.”
