It’s important to make sure kids keep their reading skills strong throughout the summer months. However, with so many great summer activities to enjoy, it’s often difficult to get them to read when they’d rather be outdoors playing. Summer reading incentive programs offer a great way to motivate kids to enjoy some books throughout their vacation. Here are a few great, free programs your kids may enjoy.
The TD Bank Summer Reading Program
With this summer reading incentive program, kids must read 10 books through the summer. Once they read those 10 books, they receive $10. However, they need to have a TD Simple Savings account or they can open one at a TD bank in order to enjoy this reward. This program is specifically for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Sylvan Book Adventure Reading Program
Another fun program for summer is the Sylvan Book Adventure Reading Program, which encourages kids to get reading. The great thing about this program is that it’s good for more than just the summer months. Kids can read books and then take quizzes online to earn points. When they have points, they get to redeem them for CDs, books, games, magazine subscriptions, and more.
The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge
This program starts on May 8, 2017. It requires kids to keep track of the minutes that they read throughout the summer. Not only can kids visit the Scholastic website to track their minutes, they can take on weekly challenges, which allow them to win some fun rewards. Reading more minutes also helps them unlock fun new stories online, and kids can enter to win some great books too.
The Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards Calendar
With the Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards Calendar program, kids need to read every day for two weeks. They can print out a reading rewards calendar and then mark off every day that they read. When they mark off every day for two weeks, they can bring in the calendar to Chuck E Cheese’s for 10 free tokens. However, a food purchase does need to be made for kids to redeem their free tokens.
The Pizza Hut BookIt Reading Program
The BookIt Reading Program run by Pizza Hut is the longest-running and largest corporate supported reading program, and it’s available for kids between Kindergarten and 6th grade. A child’s school will need to be registered for you to use this program. If you homeschool, you can register your homeschool family so your child can participate in this program.
Of course, many local businesses also run free summer reading incentive programs for kids. Check with your local library or your child’s school to see what local programs may be available to keep your child excited about reading books through summer vacation.
