We couldn’t help but think of Monet and his fellow impressionists, contemporary and modern, when we saw 12th grade artist Minbio Yoo’s artwork, I’m There. His art is featured on our 2016 Sax Arts & Crafts catalog that recently mailed. We’re captivated by the vibrant colors and broad brush strokes that capture the energy of nighttime city life, and the intricate, mechanical details of the piece. We discover something new every time we study I’m There.
Minbio’s piece was submitted by his art teacher, Sandy Newton at Houston’s Summer Creek High School, who is impressed not only by Minbio’s artistic skill, but also by his technical ability, focus, and motivation. She also speaks highly of Minbio’s ability to showcase his artistic voice. Minbio’s AP portfolio received the highest score possible, and, according to Newton, will be used to train other teachers how to develop a successful portfolio.
A multi award-winner, Minbio has placed in the Scholastic Art competition and the Visual Art Scholastic Event, as well as in several other competitions, all while maintaining an impressive GPA and participating in multiple extra-curricular activities. Minbio will study automotive design at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
We’re thrilled to highlight Minbio’s work on the cover of our latest catalog and would like to celebrate your students’ work, too! We encourage you to submit your favorite pieces for consideration for a future Sax catalog cover – if selected you and your student will both win a Sax merchandise certificate. Simply email an image of your selected artwork to artshare@schoolspecialty.com.
