Art has always been Rowan DeJule’s favorite subject. The sixth grader at Roosevelt Middle School in River Forest, IL, has also always loved elephants, so it was inevitable that an elephant should be the focal point of her mixed-media piece, The Symbolic Elephant. Rowan used oil pastels watercolors, and colored pencils on handmade deckle paper to create this awesome, African-inspired piece.
The piece, which was discovered on display at a student art exhibit held at the Cheney Mansion in Oak Park, IL, will join the Sax library of inspiring student art created by elementary, middle, and high school students from around the country. Sax has proudly promoted student artwork on our catalog covers and other marketing materials for more than a decade.
And Sax can help YOU inspire the artist in your students, too! Join us in celebrating your students’ inspired artwork by submitting it for consideration for a future Sax catalog cover – if selected you and your student will both win a Sax gift certificate! Entering is simple – just email an image of your selected artwork to artshare@schoolspecialty.com
