This part of our Tips & Tricks series on preparing the main spaces in your classroom for Back to School.
An effective desk for a teacher has many different components, some of which educators forget about until it’s too late. Here are the things you need to set up the ultimate desk.
Pencil sharpener
You might be thinking that there are pencil sharpeners all over the classroom. And you’re probably right. But the metal sharpeners that schools often mount to the wall are notorious for failing at just the right time; then it takes a month for maintenance to replace it. You’ll also need to sharpen pencils at your desk and won’t feel like getting up. Invest in a high-quality electric sharpener. It’s up to you whether you let the students use it.
Organizer cubes
These fit in almost any space you have on your desk and solve a variety of desktop storage challenges. Stacked, side-by-side or as separates, these cubes are an easy solution to tame desktop clutter.
Dry erase board
You might have dry erase boards throughout the classroom, but none of them are just for you. Put a small one, like this, at your desk (preferably mounted to the wall) for those quick last-minute reminders.
Don’t forget about your smartphone – it runs out of power too. Add style, functionality and more importantly a dedicated space and power supply to keep you smartphone charged and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
