10 Fun Ways to Rest, Relax and Recharge Over Winter Break

Start your countdown — Christmas vacation is almost here! Of course, you still have to get through holiday concerts, kids on a sugar high from all the cookies and candy, dealing with stressed-out parents, and one big classroom party before you can get 2015 in the books, but it’s so close you can almost taste it.

When you finally do get to vacation, you have definitely earned a rest. Here are 10 ways you can take some well-deserved time to recharge over the holiday so you can hit the ground running.

    1. Turn off your alarm clock.

There is really nothing better than switching off the alarm and sleeping in. (Even if your internal clock won’t allow more than an extra 10 minutes.)

    2. Get a massage.

This is the single best way to kick-start your vacation: a good massage will totally clear your mind, leaving you fully relaxed.

    3. Binge-watch something.

It doesn’t matter which show you choose. The sheer joy of being able to do something unproductive for a few hours is what makes this so worthwhile.

    4. Allow yourself just one day of school work.

Most teachers have trouble relaxing if there’s unfinished classroom business to deal with. Let yourself think about lesson plans for January, but squeeze your prep into one day so the rest of your vacation isn’t taken over by shop talk.

    5. Get inspired.

If you’re going to be surfing the Internet anyway, hit Pinterest for some motivational sayings or images that make you feel good and build up your morale after the first months of school.

    6. Sing.

Even if you’re only good enough for the shower, singing releases endorphins and changes your brain. Give it a try!

    7. Take a nap.

Teaching is one of the most sleep-deprived professions. Take every opportunity to catch up on your rest during vacation.

    8. Go outside.

There’s nothing like fresh air (no matter how cold!) to reinvigorate the senses. Take a jog or a walk to get a jump-start on that New Year’s resolution. Regular exercise will keep you energized.

    9. Hire a maid.

Consider splurging on professional housecleaning during your vacation. It will feel luxurious, and it’s the perfect way to get your house back on track after the holiday season’s hustle and bustle.

    10. Read.

Grab that book that everyone’s been talking about and curl up in a blanket to enjoy it. You’ll love how great it feels to read something that doesn’t have any spelling errors in it!

Do you have any tips to add to this list?  We’d love to hear them!
