Teachers across the country are looking at their calendars and wondering where the summer went. The knee-jerk response for many is to bury their heads under the covers and sleep until the end of August, but then you are missing out on what summer is all about—doing things you aren’t able to do during the school year! So think of this as a bucket list for the summer of 2015.
Read a book that has nothing to do with education
This might have been the first thing you did in June. But if not, now’s the time. Peruse the bestseller lists or simply pick the most appealing cover you can find at the store, but read something for fun before your time is taken up with grading papers.
Write a book
Ever heard of NaNoWriMo? People from around the world try to write a 25,000-word novel in the space of a month. Everyone has a story to tell, especially teachers. Guess how much time you have left before school starts again. 1,000 words per day gets you there.
Binge-watch your favorite TV shows
Again, you won’t have time to sit for 12 hours straight and watch a TV show. Upgrade your home Internet plan if you have to. There are episodes of Game of Thrones and Friends to watch!
Beat the crowds at the theaters
Come August, you have to go to the movies at the same time as everyone else—at night. One of the most underrated benefits of teaching is the ability to go to the theater in the middle of the day when no one else is there. Spring for the 3D IMAX showing and sit wherever you want.
Take a road trip
Travel is expensive these days, plus most of the great education conferences have already finished. Instead, find a place within 100 miles that you’ve never been before and resolve to spend the day there. It might be great. It might be boring. But it wouldn’t have happened without summer.
Of course, shopping qualifies as a bucket list item, too. Check out the great deals we have going on at Classroom Direct. What have you crossed off your summer bucket list?
