While the Alabama Crimson Tide were celebrating their College Football Playoff National Championship win in Miami earlier this year, there was another winner in South Florida celebrating just as much. School Specialty, in partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP Foundation), the Orange Bowl, and Broward County Public Schools, helped deliver a state-of-the-art media lab at Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale.
The donation is part of the Extra Yard Makeover Project, an annual tradition of giving in which School Specialty and the CFP Foundation team up to create more dynamic learning environments within schools in the area where the National Championship game is being played. The foundation chooses deserving schools that will benefit from the makeovers, and School Specialty works with them to design modern environments that support more active and engaging learning.
The renovation at Stranahan High School encompasses new furnishings and innovative technology to provide a dynamic environment where students can feel free to explore, design, and create. Features of the new media lab include a music recording studio, a screen printing and laser engraving studio, a VR hub, a 12-station eSports gaming area, a 3D printer, and an animation center. Additionally, a performing arts section—complete with a stage—and a mindfulness area where students can recharge, round out the lab.
“We’re proud of our partnership with the CFP Foundation and thrilled to make a difference in local communities,” says Stacey Rubin, Senior Vice President of Marketing for School Specialty. “This aligns with our mission as a company to inspire students and transform education with the help of modern learning environments.”
The grand unveiling and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new state-of-the-art lab took place in August and was attended by students and educators who were delighted with the makeover and eager for the unique learning opportunities it offers.
