From Dadaists to the Post-Modernists, the avant-garde movement has produced some of the most experimental and innovative works of art. From Picasso to Dali, Gaugin to Andy Warhol, avant-garde artists pushed the boundaries of known art to the limits. In our Exploring Painting Styles with Wyland’s Art project, students will explore a variety of avant-garde techniques. This includes Impressionism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Pop Art and more!
What could be more avant-garde than combining edgy, innovative techniques with the more traditional art of Robert Wyland? Known for his larger-than-life underwater murals, Wyland’s acrylic pieces have captured the attention of art lovers everywhere. As his works on sea life gained fame, it brought an increased awareness of various environmental issues.
This project links some of the most famous avant-garde techniques with a well known subject matter. After students spend time exploring various avant-garde styles, they’ll complete a pre-printed Wyland canvas using their preferred technique.
