Healthy Options for 100th Day of School Snacks
Parties often come with cake and other unhealthy treats, but the 100th day of school doesn’t have to follow suit. Try suggesting or bringing in these snacks as party fuel for students.
Raisins: Easy to count and full of flavor, as well as B vitamins, iron, and potassium.
Popcorn: While buttery, salty popcorn from the theater is certainly a treat, it is also a whole grain with up to 4 grams of fiber per serving. Instead of using butter, dress up some popcorn with grated cheese, cinnamon and sugar, or chili powder for added flavor.
Nuts & Seeds: Nuts are easy to count and full of protein and fiber to keep students fueled. The healthiest options include unsalted almonds, walnuts, cashews, and pistachios.
Baby Carrots: Vegetables are a bit of a no-brainer when adding healthy snacks to a celebration. Carrots are easy to hand out and offer antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins A, C, K, and B8.
Celery Sticks: It might take a little time to chop up the night before, but celery sticks are great for counting and taste great alone or with peanut butter dip. On top of their satisfying crunch, celery sticks offer vitamins K, C, B6, and potassium.
Pretzels: While crackers and chips can be consumed in moderation, pretzels are baked instead of fried and are very low in fat, making them a fun snack that’s healthier than potato chips.
4 Active 100th Day of School Celebration Ideas
Plenty of math equations and counting worksheet ideas are available online, but the 100th day of school celebration is also an excellent opportunity to get students moving. Active, healthy kids are better prepared to learn, so use this as a chance to get the blood pumping with these activity ideas.
100 Seconds of Dancing: This easy activity gets everyone moving and can be mixed throughout the school day schedule. Simply turn on some music for dancing and turn it off after 100 seconds. Do the activity a few times to get the wiggles out or throughout the day during transition time.
100 Exercise Moves: Choose 10 different exercise moves (push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc.) and have students do 10 of each exercise to make 100 total moves. Count them out together for a fun review of counting to 10 or 100 as a class.
100 Yard Dash: Weather and space permitting, measure 100 yards and have students make the dash. See who can cross the finish line the fastest, or put students into groups and use team scores to even out the competition.
100 Point Relay Race: Create a relay race with different activities earning teams more points. For example: if a student side-shuffles across the field, it would be worth 10 points, while running across the field would only be worth 5. See which relay team can earn 100 points and also finish the fastest.
