This holiday you’re sure to receive all kinds of gifts from your students. But there are other gifts that art teachers receive year-round, and the holidays are a great time to stop and take stock of all that we have to be grateful for, like:
That Aha Moment – Seeing a concept click for a student who’s been trying really hard makes it all worthwhile.
That Look of Pride – Plenty of projects don’t work out the way our students planned, but when they do, we get to see their faces beam with pride over projects that turned out well.
A Clean Classroom – The custodial staff who sweeps up our glitter and other art bits are some of our most favorite people.
The Gift of Energy – The energy, exuberance and optimism of our art students is contagious and gives us a lift…sometimes when we most need it.
The Gift of Growth – It’s always a gift to find the perfect professional development opportunity – the one that addresses our current needs to a tee, is close to home and fits our budget.
A Heartfelt Thank You Note – Nothing beats the sincere thanks of a student—or parent—for a job well done or a life transformed. That’s why we do what we do, after all.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received from a student? Let us know in the comments below and happy, happy holidays to all.
