Getting Your At-Home Command Center BTS Ready

As parents, you know you have a lot on your plate. On top of everything you do on a daily basis, you have to remain sane while orchestrating your student’s school year. Having a command center with the right tools on hand can help to start the school year off on the right foot. Check out these ideas for taking your at-home command center to the next level, with some extra help from the team here at School Specialty.

3 Steps to Organizing Your Home Command Center

The at-home command center is the go-to place for keeping track of important dates, notes, and paperwork. We’ve got a few great suggestions for ways to de-clutter the command center space.

    Step 1: Choose a Space

Getting a command center started can be a tough task, but be sure you’ve chosen a space that people are passing through frequently.  Some of the things you’ll be keeping in this area include bills, sports schedules, medical records, etc. It’s key that this area does not become overly-crowded with items that don’t belong there like backpacks, art projects and newspapers.

Step 2: Find Items a “Home”

Once the space is made, it’s time to organize it and find a “home” for all the important items that will live there. Clutter is the enemy here, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve got convenient storage for all your pens and highlighters, and somewhere to hang time-sensitive notes and papers with color coded pins and clips. Consider getting some clear bins to organize items without putting them completely out of sight.

    Step 3: Time-Sensitive Reminders

You can choose whether your most important notes are first put into the monthly planner, or whether you jot them onto a nearby dry erase board or Post-it note to be hung in plain view. Whichever method you choose, use the space in your command center to keep important reminders visible. Make sure to toss any notes that you don’t need to avoid clutter!

Now that you’ve got your command center started, make an effort to stop by once a day to add any new events or reminders, and to check off the items you completed. You’re on your way to a more organized and efficient school year!
