4 Creative Mother’s Day Craft Projects

Mother’s Day is a great time for students to get creative by working on craft projects allowing them to use bright colors and make fun designs. The following are several creative projects students can make for Mother’s Day.

    Pocketbook Card

From a pre-copied paper, children cut out the shape of a purse. The edges of the purse are then glued onto construction paper so there is an opening in the middle. The purse can be colored and designed in a variety of ways. For an extra touch of color, use colored or glitter glue when creating the pocketbooks. After the purse is completed, students fill the purse with special handwritten notes and other items for their mom.

    Flower Coupons

Children love designing, cutting, and pasting beautiful paper flowers. After making the flowers, each child writes a chore on the flower that their mother would appreciate being done at home. Flowers can be glued on straws and placed in a variety of vases. For younger children, arrange and glue the flowers in various ways on construction paper.

    3D Family Tree

Using cardboard or construction paper, students draw a tree with branches. Students then write the names of each family member and a sentence or two about that person on a leaf. Arrange and clue the leaves onto the family tree. Decorating the tree can be simple for younger children and more elaborate for those in older grades. Tie the project to a social studies lesson on family or genealogy for an integrated learning experience.

    Dear Mommy Letters

This project starts by taking a picture of each child in the class with their arms over their head. Cut out the pictures and paste them on a large card made of cardboard or construction paper. Cut and paste large hearts above each child’s hands on the card. The letters are then pasted into the heart each child appears to be holding on the card.

Whether writing letters, putting together a family tree, designing pocketbooks, or creating flowers, kids will enjoy projects that include something personalized for their mother. Each of these projects provides students with lots of opportunities to get creative and design something both fun and unique to bring home for Mother’s Day.
