5 Reasons to Remember Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is a tried-and-true tradition built on respect for some of America’s greatest heroes, but sometimes in the shuffle of everyday life we can forget that appreciation accomplishes more than just making teachers feel warm and fuzzy.

5 Reasons to Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week

While their hard work should be reason enough to show appreciation, there are a few other great reasons to be generous to teachers around Teacher Appreciation Week:

    Bonds Students and Teachers

Students already revere their teachers, but showing a little love can help teachers fall in love with their students as well. Would it happen anyway? Probably. But does it hurt? Certainly not.

Creates Relationships Between Teachers and Parents

A quick teacher appreciation exchange gives teachers and parents a chance to talk, which can be very helpful in the bustle of the busy before- or after-school periods.

    Reduces Turnover

Parents and kids aren’t the only ones who can appreciate teachers. Districts, individual administrators, and fellow teachers are encouraged to do it as well. Taking the time to thank the teachers in your life and give them a little something goes a long way toward keeping them happy and feeling fulfilled.

Shows Kids the Value of Giving

Kids learn the value of giving by example early in life. While their gifts may not be worth much financially, they can still mean a lot to a teacher. Consider amping up a school project, for instance, with a nice note on the back.

    Supplements the Budget

Many teachers use their own money to purchase fun items for students to use in their classroom. Use Teacher Appreciation Week to give them a head start in purchasing some of those items!

Teachers, of course, don’t work only for the thank-yous they get, but those thanks do go a long way toward making the job worth it and keeping them around. So this year, make Teacher Appreciation Week a priority!
