7 Fabulous and Fun Summer Staycation Ideas

Warm weather is already here, and you’re probably dreaming of a great vacation. For many families, finding the time and resources to plan a vacation to an exotic location just doesn’t work. However, this doesn’t mean you have to mope around at home this summer. Even if you can’t take the whole family to Hawaii or the Caribbean, you can still plan a relaxing, exciting staycation at home. With a staycation, you’ll save money and still have a great time hanging out with your family. If you’re not sure what to do for your summer staycation, here are seven fabulous, fun ideas to consider.

    1. Backyard Camping Trip

You don’t have to head to a campground for a big camping trip – simply pitch a tent in the backyard and have some fun. Set up the tent, build a bonfire, tell stories, and enjoy roasting some marshmallows together. The great news is that you can run indoors to use indoor plumbing if you need it.

    2. Home Spa Vacation

Even if you can’t afford a vacation at a luxurious spa, you can plan your own home spa vacation. Transform your home into a spa with soothing music and some candles. Pamper each other with facials, massages, and your other favorite spa treatments.

    3. Local Tourist

Have you ever played tourist in your own city? Find out what the best attractions are in your area. Head to the best restaurants, museums, and parks to enjoy seeing your city in a whole new way as a family. You may need a couple days to hit all the best local attractions.

    4. Virtual Museum Tours

Many of the best museums across the world now provide virtual tours, so you can tour a museum without leaving the comfort of your own home. Head to the Louvre in Paris, check out the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, or let the kids enjoy the Boston Children’s Museum. You can even take a virtual tour of Rome’s amazing Sistine Chapel.

    5. Enjoy a Local Aquarium or Zoo

Consider taking a day to head to a local aquarium or zoo as a family. Check your local options to see what is available. Some zoos may have programs that allow you to camp out for a night in the summer. Others may have programs that allow kids to feed the animals on certain days. Pack a nice lunch and you’ll save even more money on your adventure.

    6. Waterside Vacation

Plan your own waterside vacation. Buy a slip and slide for the backyard or a small blowup pool that everyone can splash around in. You don’t have to spend big bucks on a big pool to enjoy splashing around together to beat the heat.

    7. Biker’s Paradise Vacation

Check to see if there are local biking trails in your area. Load up the bikes, pack plenty of drinks, and add a lunch for a biker’s paradise vacation. You’ll enjoy getting some fresh air and working out together as a family for a day.

Have your ever staycationed?  If so, please share with us what you did and how it went!
