Art Lesson Plan: Corobuff Cake Sculpture

Creating a delicious-looking art piece with Corobuff paper gives students an opportunity to learn more about the classic art of cake decoration. Help them to put their own spin on the creation and decorating of a classic cylindrical cake with the Pacon Corobuff paper and other decorative elements to create a piece of art that looks good enough to eat.

Students will be experimenting with math properties and concepts to create a successful cake design. The pre-marked grids on the Pacon Corobuff paper sheets make it easier for students to ensure that their cake design looks uniform.

Tips for Creating a Corobuff Cake Sculpture

    • Have students begin the project by discussing the history of cake design and why cakes have traditionally been cylindrical.
    • Encourage students to collect images of decorated cakes to use as inspiration when creating a plan for their own cake decorations.
    • After and during the cake design process, have students explain why they chose their intended design and decorative features.
