Summer Pettigrew is a 5th grade math and science teacher at Haut Gap Middle School on Johns Island, SC. She started her career in Charleston County in 2004 after graduating from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Elementary Education.

She was an early recipient of the Classroom Modernization Grant where she was given one of the first SMART Boards in the district. This began her passion for integrating teaching with technology and in 2011, Summer’s classroom went 1:1 with iPads.

Because of her drive to transform teaching and learning to be more student centered, Summer joined the CCSD Innovation and Digital Learning Team in the Spring of 2015 as an Innovation and Digital Learning Coach. With over 5 years of experience in a 1:1 classroom, Summer supported teachers using her expertise with the pedagogy surrounding teaching with technology. Summer spent 3 years with this department, and is excited to venture back into the classroom where she hopes to continue collaborating with her colleagues on using best practices while teaching with tech.
