Big Arts in the Little Apple

Sax is proud to continue our partnership with The Building for Kids Children’s Museum through a celebration of music and visual arts in our hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin

Their most recent program, Big Arts in the Little Apple, was designed to teach kids to find inspiration and reinforce curiosity through a collaboration of art and music. Joining forces with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, Appleton 3rd and 4th graders were invited to interpret and create art reflective of the chosen musical piece: Ein Heldenleben, TrV 190, Op. 40 (“A Hero’s Life”) by Richard Strauss.

Over 600 pieces of art were submitted for juried review. The submissions were narrowed to 50 art pieces, and then a single winner was selected from that pool. A few of the 50 artworks, plus the winning piece, are shown below. The 50-piece art exhibit was featured at the Symphony concert on November 19th and now the display is at The Building for Kids Children’s Museum, and will be open to the public.

All 600+ pieces will be included in a community-wide celebration exhibition in Spring 2017.

School Specialty was happy to provide art supplies to participating teachers to support the program and their year-round efforts. We congratulate the winner of this year’s program and are proud to support partnerships that encourage and enable students to experience the power and inspiration of art education.
