Covered in Comfort Products for Children with Special Needs

The Covered in Comfort team works to create innovative products, but also makes it a priority to give back to the community. Their mission to make the world a better place for children with special needs is only part of the reason why their products are loved by parents, therapists and educators alike.

Covered in Comfort Products Made in the USA

Started by one of the owners in search of high quality, soft, washable affordable blanket, Covered in Comfort (CinC) was born by combining efforts with a friend to design and create the solution themselves. Soon they were modifying commercial toys to include weight, much to the delight of parents, therapists and educators of children with special needs.

Today, Covered in Comfort produces thousands of blankets, lap pads, weighted stuffed animals, and more. Proudly made in the USA, CinC goes one step further by employing manufacturing sewing partners that are parents/grandparents of children with special needs. The sewers meet the high-quality standards the company demands while the company allows the flexibility the sewers need in their work schedule to be good caregivers.  In addition, CinC has partnerships with special education students providing work and job skill opportunities. Best of all,  Covered in Comfort products are made in America!

Covered in Comfort Products for Deep Touch Pressure

Research suggests that the use of Deep Touch Pressure (DTP) or heavy work input into the muscles and joints provide proprioceptive input that may help with reducing anxiety, promote attention to task and help with on-task behavior.

Other examples of motor tasks that provide DTP:

    • Carrying grocery bags
    • Yoga poses like downward dog or holding a plank
    • Pushing the PE equipment card to and from class

Weighted tools like blankets, pads and stuffed animals provide additional options for sensory input.

Favorite Covered in Comfort Tools Available from School Specialty

Abilitations is proud to partner with Covered in Comfort for our third year to provide outstanding weighted sensory products that are easy on care and on price!  It’s a tough choice, but here are 5 of our favorite picks for 2018:

Weighted Lap Pad Animal Scene: This adorable pad can be rested on the lap or carried easily through a transition. Weighing 3lbs, it can be heated in a dryer or cooled in a freezer for a few minutes to add even more sensory input.

Fuzzy Fin Turtle:  At 4lbs, Fuzzy can be a terrific lap companion at circle time, study time, or even snuggle time. The weight provides heavy work input that may help with calming and organizing.

Weighted Bulldog: Coming in at just 2lbs., this lovable stuffed pet is ideal for early childhood learners.

The Ladybug Blanket:  Made of soft fleece and the addition of 4lbs of weight, this blanket may help with relaxing during naptime, quiet time, or anytime.  And it’s machine washable!

Binder Weight Insert: Great for tweens and teens this discrete weighted pad slides into a binder or notebook. Each insert weighs 2 lbs. to allow layers as needed to calibrate for individual students. These weighted tools are great for transitions in busy hallways or to have on a lap during busy social times.
