Homework Helpers – Ways to Make Studying Fun

Studying for a test or completing homework doesn’t have to be boring. From switching up the location to combining games and activities with the facts you need to learn, these study tips will help students of all ages learn without getting bored.  These can apply to students of all ages!

    Choose a Fresh Location

Grab a comfortable blanket and a snack and head outdoors to wrap up your study session, provided the weather won’t be a distraction. Rainy day? Head to the library, the shopping mall or even your favorite coffee shop for a fresh start.

    Use Online Accountability Games

A new group of online games combine fun and function – receive power-ups and new accessories for your avatar as you complete tasks on sites like Habitica. You set up your work or study goals, then get fun video game style rewards for completing tasks.

    Study with a Group

Quiz one another, take chat breaks and provide moral support – a group can generally accomplish quite a bit if they stay on task. If you have a test to study for or simply want to complete homework, a dedicated group can help you get the job done and stay accountable, provided everyone is on board for actual studying.

    Use a Timer

Stay on task with a timer; set up 15-20 minute sessions of intensive studying, then take a break to stretch your legs and relax. You’ll be better able to focus and stay fresh if you are not constantly bombarded with information.

    Use Games to Learn

Traditional games like “guess who” work well for studying historical figures or events; just replace the existing graphics with your own printed pieces for an instant study help. Even pencil games like Hangman can be used for vocabulary and spelling words, while software and online generators can produce word finds and crossword puzzles using your own set word list.

Make studying less boring and take the work out of homework with these fun and easy to implement activities and watch your child or student rise to the occasion.
