On Monday, September 9th, School Specialty was honored to be part of the Season 14 Kick off premiere episode of The Rachael Ray Show, for a reason near and dear to our hearts. We joined forces with the show to celebrate a remarkable bus driver in Dallas, Texas named Curtis Jenkins, who is making a significant impact with his students from Lake Highlands Elementary School. Curtis preaches kindness over bullying in his words and deeds and has been effective in diffusing bullying behavior and bringing the students closer together. Curtis makes every student feel recognized and important through his every day actions, and has even used his own money from his honeymoon fund to provide holiday gifts school supplies for the students.
We share Curtis’ passion for helping students and communities thrive and wanted to help ensure that he can continue to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of his students. So we surprised him on The Rachael Ray show with a $10,000 check good for anything and everything the Lake Highlands Elementary students may need from School Specialty. As part of the Season 14 “Kick off” theme, former NFL stars Nick Mangold and Amani Toomer were there to award the check to Curtis.
Curtis and Dr. Jeannie Stone, Superintendent from Lake Highlands Elementary School, were there to accept the award. They were thrilled to be able to make an even greater impact with their students thanks to this donation.
